Professional Dental Cleanings

One of the best ways to keep your teeth healthy is by having regular professional dental cleanings and exams. When you stay on top of your routine maintenance appointments, it saves you time and money and can help keep you from having an unexpected dental emergency.

Dangers of Gum Disease

No matter how diligent you are about brushing and flossing your teeth, your toothbrush just cannot reach every area. Eventually, plaque builds up on your teeth and may cause gum disease, irritation, bad breath, and even tooth loss. Plaque is the white sticky substance that collects around your gumline. It is a mixture of food particles, saliva, and bacteria.

Scientists discovered a link between gum disease and heart attacks, diabetes, and strokes. Keeping your teeth healthy with professional dental cleanings can support the wellbeing of your entire body. This is especially important for those patients who have a medical or family history of heart disease or diabetes.

Customized Dental Care

Once you have an exam with Dr. Bob Kikel, he can recommend the type of professional cleaning that will work for you. We tailor your cleanings based on your unique dental needs. In other words, if you visit the dentist every six months regularly, you will need a different type of cleaning than if you haven’t visited the dentist in a couple of years. At our Colquitt dental office, we offer exactly what you will need to stay healthy.

While cleanings every six months may work for some patients, if you have gum disease or some catching up to do, we may recommend more frequent visits.

Gentle Dental Cleanings

Our hygienists are friendly and extremely gentle. Our entire team enjoys spending time getting to know and care for our patients in a very personal way. We have known many of you for years, and so keeping you comfortable and satisfied with your treatment is incredibly important to us. Our dental practice believes in building lifelong relationships. We will learn your likes and dislikes. If you feel nervous about the dental chair, we can help.

Once we get started, our hygienists will gently remove all of the plaque above and below your gumline. Then, we will use a special polish to remove any remaining plaque and make your teeth shiny and smooth. Periodically, we will take x-rays or ask Dr. Kikel to come in and give you a check-up where he looks for anything that might require your attention. Dr. Kikel is great about communicating with our patients so that you always feel like you are well informed about your oral health.
